Two Engineering Students Held with Heroin Worth Rs 10 mn

Lucknow, Feb 17 (IANS) Two engineering students have been arrested with heroin worth Rs.10 million (Rs.1 crore) in Uttar Pradesh's Bulandshahr district, police said Wednesday.

Deepak Rawat and Danish, both in their third year of Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) in a private engineering college, were nabbed Tuesday night from Panchwati colony of Bulandshahr, some 400 km from Lucknow.

"Preliminary investigations reveal both Deepak and Danish came in contact with drug peddlers, who were providing them Rs.2 lakh for every consignment they handed over to clients based in Delhi and Haryana," police inspector Daya Sagar told reporters in Bulandshahr.

"The students, who are from a private engineering college along the Khurja-Sikandarabad road in Bulandshahr, have admitted that some of their friends were also involved in drug peddling," he added.

According to police, Deepak and Danish belong to middle-class families and had a desire to live a lavish life.

"On the basis of vital information given by the two students, we would surely unearth the illegal trade in Bulandshahr and other regions of the state," said Sagar.
