VHP Calls for Boycott of SRK Film, Differs with Sena

Guwahati, Feb 8 (IANS) The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) Monday appeared to back the Shiv Sena by calling for a nationwide boycott of Shah Rukh Khan's "My Name is Khan" but took objection to the Sena's Mumbai-for-Marathis stand and said every inch of India belonged to all Indians.

"People of India must boycott 'My Name is Khan' as Shah Rukh Khan is a traitor," VHP general secretary Pravin Togadia told journalists here.

"My Name is Khan", starring Shah Rukh and Kajol, is set to be released Friday.

But the star is mired in a blazing row over his recent comments advocating the cause of Pakistani cricket players who were not picked by any team for IPL.

Togadia threatened that posters of the film would be torn down.

Interestingly, the radical VHP leader locked horns with the Shiv Sena that had also objected to Shah Rukh's comments by saying Mumbai could not be only for Marathis.

"The VHP's stand is very clear and we differ on the Shiv Sena's position. According to us, every inch of India belongs to all Indians and every Indian has the right to stay with dignity in any part of the country... Mumbai, Delhi, and even Kashmir is for all Indians," the VHP leader said.

"If we try to stay that Mumbai is for Marathis and outsiders have to leave Mumbai, then I would say India would not survive."

I think SRK has done no wrong. All he said was Pakistani players should have been selected. If you dont like it, don watch matches played by the Knight Riders. What has it got to do with his movie. Dont discriminate bcause he is a Muslim. Some ppl wanted Sanjay Dutt, one of the accused in Mumbai blasts to be pardoned after his Munna Bhai movie. What is the sin in saying that Pak players could have been included? Hypocrites! Both the Sena and vhp are trying to score some easy points.

It is not about if we can or cannot play cricket with or without Pakistani players. It is important to remember that they are just avg citizens of the country just like me. They are playing for their livelihood. Only they are more famous than I am. Like I cannot be held responsible for some of the comments made by Sene or VHP, the Pak players too cannot be held responsible for the govt actions. VHP and sena are a big farce, trying to incite violence and bring about a rift in every possible way they can. They are desperate.

Mr Nagesh, you only blame pseudos. What about Advaniji who praised Jinnah, what about Vajpayeeji who kept contacts with Pakistan at the height of the Kargil war when everybody knew that Pakistan had back-stabbed India? Why are you quiet on such issues? BJP and the VHP should put their house in order before pointing fingers at others. Previously you had mentioned that Mr. Thackeray was 100% right in the back of one article. In that case, please note that Mr. Thackeray also stated that in Belgaum , Kannadigas are depriving the Marathas their due rights. If that is right, Mr. nayak where do you plege your loyalty to?

Very sensible and responsible statement by Togadia. He talks about the unity of India including Kashmir. As far as boycotting the film of SRK, its upto the individuals. SRK really deserves a jolt this time for his irresponsible statement. Can we not live and play cricket without Pak players??? Pak should be isolated not only in cricket but also in other areas until they realise their mistakes and mend themselves. However we dont require a certificate from VHP/SS/BJP for our Indianness and patriotism.
