Pawar Meets Bal Thackeray, Bats for Oz Cricketers

Mumbai, Feb 7 (IANS) Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar Sunday met Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray to urge him not to oppose the participation of Australian cricketers in the forthcoming Indian Premier League (IPL).

Specially flying down to Mumbai from Aurangabad, Pawar called on Thackeray at the latter's residence Matoshri, where they were closeted for over two hours.

While Pawar was accompanied by Indian cricket board chief Shashank Manohar, Thackeray was joined by son Uddhav who drove down from Pune for the meeting.

Over a fortnight ago, the Shiv Sena had made it clear that it would not permit Australian players to play in Maharashtra for the ongoing attacks on Indians in that country.

Though Pawar declined to comment about the meeting, there were indications that the mission may have failed to bear the desired results.

Interacting with mediapersons, Manohar said that "we presented our viewpoint before Thackeray on this critical issue".

"We also explained to them the format of the IPL teams and matches and how there were one or two Australian players in each team. He agreed to consider the issue in a couple of days," Manohar said.

The IPL will also make a presentation on the issue before Thackeray, after which he would clarify whether the Sena would permit the Australians to take part.

Earlier Sunday, addressing a Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) conclave in Aurangabad, Pawar had said that sports and politics must not be mixed and also announced his plans to meet Thackeray over the issue.

A message to all warring parties. Everyone has right to express his views, which may differ from the one which you profess or believe in or find extremly diverse. Donot insult just for his different view. Repect everyone's thought whether you like it or not. I strongly condemn personal attacks out of frustration and not able to get your views accross. Some peoples attitude is sickening as they simply criticise others views / writing with out offering suggestons or pointing out mistakes. Last but not least, level of comprehension of news and writing skills of many are abysmally low.

Sorry Mr Santos! I do not agree with your take. I know most of the readers comment unnecessarily. But have a close watch over the comments. They all usually start with Mr Nagesh's comments which warrant these kind of responses. And do not bring religion here. Whatever the news might be, whatever the issue, Nagesh brings in religion and BJP. I don't think so I am the only one who has this kind of opinion about him. Let him first refrain from these kind of unwarranted comments and let's then see, who brings religion, BJP, J & K, Artile 370 to this forum.

Nagesh Nayak the definition of unity according to the BJP is this : Getting rid of the country of all Muslims, christians, sikhs, buddhists etc by butchering them. Complete destruction of all their religious places. Creating a class society where the dalits and underprevileged will remain slaves to the upper castes. Encourage evil practices like dowry, child marriage, sati etc in the name of preserving culture. Divide the country into biharis, tamils, north indians, south indians, marathi manoos, telugu pride, bengali pride etc. This is not only their definition of unity but also their hidden agenda. And there is no doubt that you will not succeed. Not even in a million years, because there are enough patriots in the country to stop these evil designs.Jai Ho

Shard Pawar should close down the NCP and join the Shiv sena. Congress should break the alliance with this coward. He tried his stunts once upon a time by forming the NCP thinking that it was the short cut to becomming Prime Minister. After having realized that his ambition would only remain a dream and to boost his sagging standing he formed an alliance with the Congress. Today this over ambitious politician is again up to his dirty tricks. He should be promptly shown the door.

Nagesh Nayak, UPA is not better than BJP and BJP is not better than UPA in its functions and administration. The only difference between the two is UPA talks about the unity of India and BJP talks about the division of India. Thats white fact.

No one is true to his conscious and all are selfish. Its same Thackere, who opposed the visit of Michael Jackson, few years ago. When the organisers paid him crores, he just allowed him and even permitted to meet him. Is Thackeray patriot or selfish? Dont trust these dirty politicians as they have double take and double standards.

This is really rubbish. Whos is this Pawar and what power has he got to meet Thackrey. What he thinks of himself and thackrey. Does he represents BCCI or IPL. No, he doesnt have any post in Indian cricket other than representing ICC as vice president. So whats the need of him taking initiative to meet Thackrey when there is a Govt to protect people and sports from these culprits. How can he ask protection for a game from a politician.

Its really a shameful act from Pawar as an Union minister to meet a person who is under attack from all the corners and Govt must ask an explanation from him. If he has any concern with Congress, he should have sorted out and to make congress angry by going to Mathoshree is really a cheap political game!
