Panaji, Feb 3: A meeting of Goa State Commission for Protection of Child Rights was held under the chairmanship of Samira Kazi at Secretariat here, on Tuesday February 2.

Speaking on the occasion Kazi said that the objective of the commission was to eliminate child labour, ensure implementation of the child rights protection act, ensure right to education, free and compulsory education to children and the like. She reviewed the child right position in Goa and called for concerted efforts by all concerned departments and agencies for the protection of child rights. She also stressed the need for some health programmes for children to detect if there are any diseases in them.

V P Rao, secretary, Women and Child Development called for a practical approach while dealing with problems related to children. He outlined the need for counseling children and their parents whenever necessary. He also urged the members and the concerned departments to create awareness about the act protecting child rights.

Subhash Sirsat, member, Ezilda Sapeco, member, Dr Rajnanda Dessai, director of Health Services, Shobha Dhumaskar, director, Prosecution,  G V Dhume, member,  Bosco George, SP North, Allen D’Sa, SP South, Nagraj Honnekeri, director, State Council of Educational Research and Training, Porvorim and the representatives of labour, information and publicity among others attended the meeting.
