Manoj Tiwari resigns from Samajwadi Party

New Delhi, Feb 3 (IANS) Well-known Bhojpuri actor Manoj Tiwari resigned from the Samajwadi Party (SP) Tuesday in support of Amar Singh, who was expelled from the party earlier in the day.

Tiwari said in a statement that he had been brought into the party by Amar Singh and he no longer felt like continuing in the party.

"Amar Singh brought me into the SP. When he has left the party, there is no reason for me to continue," Tiwari said.

Criticising the SP leadership's treatment of Amar Singh, he said the former general secretary had contributed immensely to the party's growth and the party had also attained an identity in Bollywood.

Amar Singh and Jaya Prada, both MPs, were expelled by SP Tuesday for "anti-party activities".
