Pongal Celebrated in Goa

Panaji, Jan 19: Department of Tourism, Government of Tamilnadu celebrated its annual Pongal Festival at Goa recently. 

The Department had made all the arrangement for the Festival and the same was conducted highlighting the rural, folk art forms from Tamilnadu and other important features associated with the festival of Pongal. Pongal is a  festival, celebration of harvest and thank giving to the God. The event was formally inaugurated by lighting the traditional lamp, Kuthu Villakku, by a women foreign tourist. This was followed by other festivities such as distribution of sweet, sweet rice, etc. 

The visitors were given a traditional welcome by way of garlanding and applying the holy mark on the forehead. They were briefed about the Festival.
