Panaji, Dec 28:
Fr Julius Rasquinha with Mangalorean roots and brought up in Goa was ordained a Salesian priest at Don Bosco Tech.Institute Church, Fatorda, recently.

The solemn meaningful liturgy was led by archbishop and patriarch of Goa, Daman and Diu Fr Philip Neri Ferrao and attended by a large gathering of clergies, family, local congregation, relatives and friends. It was an occasion of great joy.

As per publications of a famous genealogist of the Mangalorean Catholic community worldwide Fr.Julius is the grand son of Gilbert Patrick Rasquinha (1899-1971), who is known to have managed the Caltex Petrol Pump at Hampankatta, Mangalore. He is also the grand nephew of late Fr Lawrence F Rasquinha, principal of St Aloysius College, Mangalore from 1966 and rector from 1974. Fr Julius’ mother hails from a 'Peris-Bhat' family of Attavar/Jeppu.

Julius S Rasquinha was born on January 18, 1971 at Margao to Alfred and Mary (Joan). He finished his schooling from Loyola High School, Margao and passed his SSCE in 1986. He went on to complete his BE in Electronics and Telecommunications from Goa College of Engineering, Farmagudi, Goa, in 1992. He worked as an engineer till 1998.

He joined Dominic Savio High School, Andheri, Mumbai, to discern his vocation. He started his pre- novitiate in 1999. He made his first profession on May 24, 2001. He began his studies in Theology in 2006 in Pune. He made his perpetual profession on May 24, 2008 and received the order of Diaconate in February 2009.

On asked how he looks at his vocation in the context of his background he simply smiles and briefly quotes the words of Jesus Christ from the Bible, ‘My grace is sufficient for you’. He says his superiors and colleagues go along with the words 'Not that I am greater........but that GOD has set his sight on me’.
