Kerala police register case against 17 foreigners for swimming in sea


Thiruvananthapuram, Apr 15 (IANS): Police in Kerala on Wednesday registered a case against a group of 17 foreign tourists who broke the lockdown norms and went for a swim in the famed Kovalam beach here.

Speaking to IANS, a police official said that a case has been registered against the foreigners for violating the norms and arrested five locals who belong to the resort where these tourists was staying.

" The local people who have been arrested have been released on bail, while the probe against the foreigners has begun," said the official who did not wish to be identified.

The tourists are staying at a beach resort and they went for a swim before 7 a.m. on Tueswday.

The group consisting of both men and women had a swim and when the lifeguards came at 7 a.m., they were surprised to see the group in the sea.

The guards immediately asked all the tourists to return to their hotel.
