COVID-19: Spike in Gujarat cases, tally 38 now


Gandhinagar, Mar 25 (IANS): With three new positive cases of coronavirus in Gujarat, the total count of COVID-19 patients in the state has surged to 38, the health authorities said on Wednesday.

The health officials have finished surveying more than 1 crore people in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak in the state.

Briefing the media, Jayanti Ravi, Principal Secretary, Health and Family Welfare Department, said, "Out of the three new cases found on Wednesday, one is from Ahmedabad with travel history of Dubai and the other two are one each from Vadodara and Surat getting infected locally. Till date Ahmedabad has 14 positive, Surat 7, Rajkot 3, Vadodara 7, Gandhinagar 6 and Kutch 1 positive cases"

"We have intensified the surveillance and tracking for the virus outbreak and till date surveyed 1,07,62,012 persons in the state. A total of 20,688 persons are under 14 day quarantine period, with 20,220 at home, 430 are in government institutions setups and 38 are in private quarantine facilities.

"We have received more than 15000 calls on the 104 services till date, out of which 258 have been treated. The police has filed FIR against 147 persons for violating law and order situation," added Ravi.

"We have also setup corona special hospitals in four major cities, where 1200 bed facility has been set up in Ahmedabad, 500 in Surat and 250 beds each in Vadodara and Rajkot. The state right now has 1,583 isolation beds in government institutes and 635 isolation beds in private facilities," added Ravi.
