Mangalore, Nov 22: Multi-talented multi-lingual national award winning cine actor, director and producer, Prakash Rai, popularly known as ‘Prakash Raj’ in Tamil cine world, got legally separated from his wife, Lalita Kumari, on Thursday November 19. The application filed by the husband and wife duo, was granted by the principal judge of the family court, Chennai, B Ramalingam.

Prakash Rai, a native of Vittal, had married yester-year actress, Lalita Kumari, on December 25, 1994. Differences had cropped up between the two, last year, reportedly after Rai moved closer to a choreographer from Mumbai. Initially, Lalita Kumari had resisted the divorce petition and had pleaded for a reunion. The two were not living together since a year. The advocates of the two had worked hard to bring the two together, but failed.  In a surprise move, Lalita Kumari had agreed for the divorce recently.

Judge Ramalingam, who had given time for the couple to come together, finally gave the stamp of approval for the separation, after holding discussions with the two individually and verifying their agreement bonds.

As per the divorce terms, Prakash will have to pay alimony to wife Lalita Kumari, every month. She had demanded for alimony of two lac rupees every month, which has reportedly been granted. The custody of the children has been given to Lalita.
