Google Doodle celebrates Leap Day

New Delhi, Feb 29 (IANS): Google Doodle on Saturday celebrated Leap Day, which occurs once in every four years on the 29th day of February, instead of the usual 28.

The year is called a Leap Year, while the day is known as Leap Day.

"Today's Doodle is jumping for joy on Leap Day, the 29th day of February that only occurs about every four years, to keep our calendars in alignment with the Earth and sun," the Google Doodle page said.

"We HOP you have a good one-Happy Leap Day!" it added.

Leap years in the western calendar were first introduced in 46 BC by Roman general Julius Caesar.

The Julian calendar, which was named after him, had only one rule: 'Any year evenly divisible by four would be a leap year.'

The next leap year will be in 2024.
