Former Jharkhand CM Koda Stashed Away Crores in 7 Countries

Ranchi/New Delhi, Nov 1 (Agencies): The Income Tax and Enforcement Directorate officials have come out with shocking revelations that former Jharkhand chief minister Madhu Koda might have made large illegal investments in countries as far as Liberia, besides better-known destinations like the UAE, Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia.

Koda, who as an independent MLA, exploited the hung assembly verdict in Jharkhand after the 2005 assembly elections to dictate terms to mainstream parties like the BJP and Congress to grab the chief minister’s chair, could become the first former chief minister to face arrest and trial under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

On Saturday, Income Tax Department conducted searches on the alleged properties Koda and some of his close associates allegedly acquired in several cities across the country.

From the evidence gathered, IT officials said Koda might have made an investment of US$ 17 lakh in Liberia in mines business. The officials said the hawala transactions were to the tune of over Rs 1,500 crore.

Income Tax sleuths, who carried out countrywide searches on Saturday on 70 premises allegedly owned by former Jharkhand Chief Minister Madhu Koda and his associates, claimed that besides investments in mines, Koda and his aides were suspected to have made direct and benami investments in hundreds of crores of rupees in real estate firms and properties both in the country and abroad.

Koda has been flying off to Bangkok regularly with some close aides who apparently have direct links with some industrialists. The IT department also claimed to have found evidence of ‘unaccounted’ money transactions during his tenure as mines and geology minister in the Arjun Munda government and later as the chief minister,   IT Director of Investigation Ujjwal Choudhary told reporters in Ranchi after raids on the premises of Koda and his alleged associates Sanjay Choudhary and Binod Sinha.

The searches were conducted by at least 70 teams  and assisted by Enforcement Directorate men on the properties located in Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Lucknow, Nasik, Ranchi, Chaibasa and Jamshedpur, officials said. Koda and his close associates were charged on October 10 for money laundering of more than Rs 4,000 crore.

It is proved by Income TAx Dept that the said crooked Politician has accumulated illgotten wealth. What is shameful that the people's tax money which should go for people's welfare and development has been pocketed by one person alongwith his associates. Pre-Independence the Britishers used the Indian wealth not only for themself but also for the development of India but now the politicians are there to see their own development than the State/countrty development. How come Rs. 42 Crores worth of Gold Ornament was given as a gift to the God we have not seen. It is time that the Bellary MIners properties and wealth is scrutinised to know the real worth of illgoten wealth.

No doubt everyone is aspiring to be a politician as they make quick buck in short time and loot the public funds and earn illegal wealth through corrupt means which rightfully belong to the people of our country. The CBI officials too are corrupt. First of all corruption must be eradicated and a moral lesson must be taught to the children when they are very young.

Now we cant stop corruption in this generation but with good education and mindset and right attitude alteast we can inject good morale to the next generation which India could see as corruption free government... These courrput politicians must be tied to a pillar in a public place and must be shot to death in front of public for looting national wealth.

We are against Mohamed Ghazni who came to India 17 times to loot wealth and we are against British for they looted us, why we are not against these dirty politicians who are looting our wealth in the name of democracy and in the name of janata service... Shame on these politicians.... Hang them till death..

The people of Karnataka gave chance to BJP in the hope that they will do away with the corruption but the party MLA's and ministers have made more money than that of all cogress governments in last few years. There should be similar raids on all the current and former ministers.

Our Freedom Fighters fought for their life so that every Indian could live a LIfe of dignity. Today what our politicians are doing we should regret for having got freedom. Majority of the Peoples life would have been better off if this freedom was not fought. We are considered the largest democractic country in the world and I feel ashamed to be a part of it. The People of this country did not expect from the Politicians whom we have elected. The People are also to be blamed for electing corrupted people. Money power plays a lot in winning elections. Shame on this democratic values which has made me part of it as I am born Indian.
