Outgoing army chief calls on President Kovind


w Delhi, Dec 31 (IANS): Outgoing Indian Army chief, General Bipin Rawat, whose appointment as India's first Chief of Defence Staff was announced on Monday evening, called on President Ram Nath Kovind.

General Rawat will demit office as army chief on Tuesday, and Vice Chief, Lt Gen M.M. Naravane will take charge as next Chief of Army Staff on Wednesday.

Before demitting office, Gen Rawat would be laying a wreath at the National War memorial and be accorded a Guard of Honour on Tuesday morning.
