Jammu: Another Missionary Arrested On Charges Of Convesion

JAMMU, Jammu & Kashmir, Sep 18 (SAR NEWS): Another missionary of Barnala in Punjab was arrested at Hiranagar in Kathua district, September 17, for alleged conversion.
According to police, 60-year-old Salamat Masih had converted three persons, Keshev Dass, Satpal, and another villager of Indira Colony of Hiranagar Morth, to Christianity.
It is reported that Masih had taken the trio to the bank of a canal at Dayalchak for giving them a holy bath before administering baptism. The locals who came to know about the plan handed over Masih to police. The missionary is believed to have promised the trio Rs.10, 000 each.
It may be recalled that for the past two years, Christian pastors have been harassed in the border district of Jammu province for their alleged involvement in converting the villagers. Not long ago, Samuel, a retired captain of the Army, was also arrested on the charges of conversion.
In 2003, an educationist of international repute, Mill Hill missionary Father Jim Borst, was accused of converting people in Kashmir. Consequently, his residential permit was withdrawn by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir. He was asked to leave the state within a week. The priest had been living in the State since 1963 and had done pioneering service in the field of education.
It was on the strong protest shown by the Catholics that his expulsion order was rescinded.
