New Delhi, Dec 24 (IANS): As the Union Cabinet on Tuesday approved the Chief of Defence Staff's (CDS) post and its charter and duties, Twitter users hailed the government's decision.

While a few hazarded a guess as to who would be the first CDS, many others favoured a five-star General or equivalent to man the post.

One user wrote: "According to one TV channel, General Bipin Rawat could be the first CDS."

Another user said: "Ohh... relieved... This is a good decision. 4STAR. This means, CDS will not be 1st among equals! Thank you @narendramodi @rajnathsingh and @AmitShah ji."

One user commented: "CDS should be five-star rank & must not be "first among the equals". Give CDS a Cabinet Minister rank. Very good news...."

"It should be a 5-star at any cost," remarked another user.

One user wished to know the appointment process for the post.

The CDS will head the Department of Military Affairs proposed to be created under the Defence Ministry. He will function as its Secretary. The 4-star General will draw salary equivalent to the service chiefs.
