3 sanitation workers killed in Mumbai septic tank


Mumbai, Dec 23 (IANS): Three labourers, who were trapped while cleaning a septic tank, were brought out dead, the BMC Disaster Control said here on Monday.

The incident occurred at around 12.30 p.m. when the trio was cleaning a septic tank in Ganeshwadi area in Govandi suburb, northeast Munbai.

Following a complaint, the Mumbai Fire Brigade rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation.

The labourers -- tentatively suspected to have inhaled and died due to toxic fumes from the septic tank -- were brought dead to the Shatabdi Hospital late on Monday evening by the Mumbai Fire Brigade.

The deceased have been identified as Vishwajeet Devnath (32), Santosh Prabhakar Kalsekar (45) and Govind Sangram Charotiya (34).

The Govandi Police are making further investigation into the tragedy.
