Anti-Modi slogans reverberate Jama Masjid protest


New Delhi, Dec 20 (IANS): As a huge protest marched towards the iconic Delhi gate, anti government and anti-Modi sloganeering reverberated the area.

While a few protestors stayed back at the Jama Masjid, the majority marched ahead.

The police, which faced a tough time controlling the mob was on its toes to avoid any untoward incident.

Imran, one protestor told IANS: "Chandra Shekhar has come for us and we will walk with him till he walks. This is an issue of serious nature and everybody should stand against it." Shekhar is the chief of Bhim Army and became known overnight when he was booked under the stringent National Security Act by the Uttar Pradesh Police sometime back.

As Delhi Police had barricaded the area, but the crowd continued to swell. The two Metro stations in the area were closed.

The protests were in continuation of those taking place across the nation against the Citizenship Amendment Act and the National Register of Citizens (NRC).
