Congress top brass to discuss unrest on CAA


New Delhi, Dec 19 (IANS): Congress top brass on Thursday will discuss the unrest against the Citizenship Amendment Act which the party has been opposing amid crackdown on protesters by police in different parts of the country.

The party is expected to come up with a statement on the issue after the meeting. The Congress is also on the forefront to oppose the CAA and even former MP of the party Sandeep Dikshit has been detained by the police.

The Congress had approached President Ram Nath Kovind in the past to urge him to direct the government to withdraw the Act as the opposition of the CAA has intensified.

Meanwhile, the protest at several places in Delhi including Jantar mantar is going on despite the efforts by the police to quell it.

The protesters have even refused to vacate the Red Fort depite pleas by the police even as Swaraj India leader Yogendra yadav was detained here.

The Left leaders including Sitaram Yechury and D. Raja have also been detained from Mandi House.
