Did you know Manmohan demanded CAA in 2003? BJP releases video

New Delhi, Dec 19 (IANS): Did Congress demand a Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in 2003 which it is so vehemently protesting against? The BJP on Thursday released an archive footage of Rajya Sabha proceedings in 2003, where former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is seen to be making an appeal for the same.

From its official handle, the Bharatiya Janata Party tweeted: "In 2003, speaking in Rajya Sabha, Dr Manmohan Singh, then Leader of Opposition, asked for a liberal approach to granting citizenship to minorities, who are facing persecution, in neighbouring countries such as Bangladesh and Pakistan. Citizenship Amendment Act does just that..."

In the video, Singh is heard emotionally arguing: "While I am on this subject, Madam, I would like to say something, about the treatment of refugees. After the partition of our country, the minorities in countries like Bangladesh, have faced persecution, and it is our moral obligation that if circumstances force people, these unfortunate people, to seek refuge in our country, our approach to granting citizenship to these unfortunate persons should be more liberal."

Then he went on to draw attention of senior BJP leader, L.K. Advani to add: "I sincerely hope that the honourable Deputy Prime Minister will bear this in mind in charting out the future course of action with regard to the Citizenship Act."

When the Deputy Chairman responded by telling Advani that "minorities in Pakistan are also suffering", the then Deputy Prime Minister replied: "Madam, I fully endorse that view."

But as the Congress goes all out objecting to the CAA, calling it "unconstitutional" and demanding it's toll back, THE BJP's National Incharge of its IT Cell Amit Malviya also took to Twitter, saying: "In 2003, speaking in Rajya Sabha, Dr Manmohan Singh, then Leader of Opposition, asked for a liberal approach to granting citizenship to minorities, who are facing persecution, in neighbouring countries such as Bangladesh and Pakistan. Citizenship Amendment Act does just that..."

double speak Congress - its skeleton is out of the closet! That is how Congress wants to come back by causing stir across the nation and wanting to embrace Muslims from Pakistan who are the majority. There may be a method in that madness - Pakistanis might opt for a United India!

even if Manmohan Singh has planned, he and the Congress had the maturity and vision not to proceed with it. But the BJP - all brawn and no brain.

Congress lacked the will. Too controversial, so brush the problem aside for decades and ever.
Congress signed the Assam Accord over 3 decades back and did not deliver. The Non-Assamese population has increased since the Accord. The problem now is that Assamese are holding on to that Accord and unwilling to negotiate based on present ground reality. The NRC mess there is also because of the delay in it's implementation after agreeing when the Accord was signed.
Congress wants to take credit for the good things that happened in their tenure but no responsibility for their failures...case in point being one of their biggest failures.

Congress past PM Rajiv Gandhi had ordered the locks on the Ramjanmabhoomi-Babri Masjid in Ayodhya removed.
Until then, a priest had been permitted to perform puja once a year!
Thereafter, BJP continued the stir for Ayodhya Temple, all Hindus were given access to what they consider the birthplace of Rama, the prince posthumously deified as an incarnation of Vishnu.

In 2003, speaking in Rajya Sabha, Dr Manmohan Singh, then Leader of Opposition, asked for a liberal approach to granting citizenship to minorities, who are facing persecution, in neighbouring countries such as Bangladesh and Pakistan.
In line with his suggestion, in 2019 BJP enacted new CAA.

Same is the case of GST and Aadhar.

Does this not mean, Congress suggest or begin something and leave there and BJP implement the same.
Thereafter they fight against each other?

Dr. MMS talked about taking liberal approach in granting citizenship to persecuted minorities in neighbouring countries. He meant citizenship to be granted to minorities on humanitarian grounds. Now the whole world knows who are the minorities in Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Meaning ? BJP is not doing anything from its own brains. It is enacting everything that Congress had in mind. That too when Congress ruling the nation with thin number count, that could collapse anytime unlike BJP that has full majority members in both the houses.

Despite this BJP is asking 'What Congress did in 70 years' ?? Don't you guys have any self respect ?
