CAA protests: Violence erupts in Aligarh Muslim University too

Aligarh, Dec 15 (IANS): After Jamia Milia in Delhi, violence erupted in the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) late on Sunday night, in protest against the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Act.

AMU students mounted a violent protest against the police crackdown on students in Jamia Milia in Delhi.

Cops used tear gas shells and lathi-charged students to disperse the mob.

Additional forces have been rushed in from adjoining districts. Rapid Action Force has also been deployed in the campus.

According to reports, a large number of students had collected outside the administrative block late on Sunday evening and pelted stones at the police. The protestors shouted abusive slogans against the police.

Efforts to pacify the AMU students by the AMU officials proved futile and the agitationists continued to pelt students.

Two policemen alongwith a senior police and several journalists were injured in the violence, according to reports.

Senior police officials have reached the AMU and firing was reported from inside the campus.

Earlier, AMU students vandalized the area at Chungi gate and some vehicles were also set on fire.

Senior police officials in Lucknow were closely monitoring the situation and taking measures to prevent escalation of violence.

Unconfirmed reports said that AMU had been closed till January 5 but no official was ready to confirm this.

Aligarh had been simmering since Friday when the district authorities ordered a shutdown of Internet services in the district.

Students going to college to study but in this case, they are supporting foreigners to get Indian Citizenship. Really funny that these idiots wanted to include some sections in this CAA. This is a purely political party's agenda & students have become scapegoat.

They are not supporting foreigners ,they are supporting left out Indian nationals, particularly Muslims and considered Foreigners due to lac of documentation and putting a clause in CAA for religious test in granting Indian citizenship.

In Assam NRC there are 14 lac muslims who are left out are Indian Nationals and Muslim. 5 lacs Hindus who were left out will get Indian citizenship under CAA.

Father of Nation, Mahatma Gandhi delivered India the Independence from the British Empire, a mighty venture at that time. Mahatma did not have mighty army but he used Non-violence and civil disobedience to protest against the British.

India has now a big and monstrous problem, I say problem because it has been created by the government on religious lines let alone communal lines. Hindus are majority in this country and rightly so, that does not mean hindus own the land to debar others who are not hindus. India is a pyramid of discrimination from caste system. Now this hate has been enshrined in CAA (hope the Supreme Court will de-enshrined the CAA).

The protest are of course peaceful is a order of the day. Like Mahatma the Secular loving Indians must oppose this Nazi type law. India should wake up now from the brutality the government is causing reminding Indians they have the manifesto in 2019 elections. 60% of Indians have not voted in the current government.

Indians of course the secular one must come to the streets and show the displeasure to gain their freedom from religious bias of this government.

Mahatma did it against the Goliath why cannot we do against this modern religious, dogmatic Goliath of India who divides Indians like the British did -divide and rule.

Peaceful protests must go on until CAA and NRC is made null and void. These protests are for the very survival of India and a secular nation and no religious tests for citizenship.
