Doughty girl athlete steps up to win 3 golds, Twitter hails her

Iloilo (The Philippines), Dec 14 (IANS): It's no mean feat: An 11-year-old schoolgirl is wowing the social media after winning three gold medals in her school athletics meet by running with no shoes but crepe bandage covering her toes, soles and fingers of her feet.

Interestingly, she had added her own Nike logo on the sides with a marker.

Rhea Bullos won gold in 400 metre, 800 metre and 1,500 metre competitions during the Iloilo Schools Sports Council Meet.

A Facebook user posted pictures of the girl, along with those of her bandaged feet. He wrote: "New design of spike shoes. Made in Philippines. NIKE. Congratulations RHEA BULLOS of Balasan. 3GOLDS -- 400m dash. 800m run. 1500m run."

The post got 2K likes and 878 shares on Facebook.

One user posted: "Nike should give that girl shoes free for life. If there is a little common sense in them. Now, she is the worldwide brand ambassador of Nike."

One admiring fan wrote: "This little girl is going viral all over the USA, NIKE were you at!!!!"

One post read: "Soon there will be a new running shoes model: Rhea x Nike."

"Welcome to a very small, but elite club! Congrats Rhea Bullos!" read another.

One user commented: "Create your own personal brand, baby girl, don't let Nike take the credit for your success."

Jeff Cariaso, the head coach of Alaska Aces, which is a professional basketball team in her native country, took notice and asked Twitterati to help him contact her: "Help me connect with her please."

Cariaso is the CEO of basketball store Titan 22.
