Smriti lashes out at Rahul for 'Rape in India' remark

New Delhi, Dec 13 (IANS): Union Minister Smriti Irani lashed out on Friday at Rahul Gandhi for his remark 'Rape in India' on Friday and called it deplorable that he should play politics on rape, and asked his mother Congress President Sonia Gandhi to advise and guide him.

She demanded an strong action against the former Congress chief and not just an apology.

Rahul Gandhi, on Thursday, while addressing an election rally in Jharkhand took a jibe on the Prime Minister's pet project 'Make in India' and said: "Earlier it was 'make in India', but now it is rape in India".

Speaking to the media outside the Parliament, Irani said how could the Congress leader stoop to such extent as to mean something like "inviting men to India to rape".

Lashing out at Rahul inside the Lok Sabha, Irani said: "This is the first time in the history of India that a man from Gandhi family has the audacity to insult women and call for their rape.

"This is the first time in the history of India that a leader is giving loud call that Indian women should be raped. Does he mean that all men in India want to rape women? Is this Rahul Gandhi's message to the people of the country?"

The Minister along with other MPs in the lower House, asked for an apology from Rahul Gandhi. There was rage and fury as she attcaked the Congress. She said: "Rahul Gandhi should be punished for mocking his political opponant and calling 'Come, rape in India."

"Women are no one's personal property and he should know that if someone evokes for their rape, women know how to give a fitting reply."

Countering DMK MP Kanimozhi's answer to the Chair that the statement was made "outside the Parliament" the minister said that raising voice against crime against women is the least that a parliamentarian can do.

"I am so disheartened that being a woman you (Kanimozhi) cannot come across the party line and raise your voice on crime against women."

The incident was followed by a tweet from the BJP official twitter handle: "After everything fails, Rahul Gandhi is back to insulting and denigrating India! It is crass and insensitive to politicise a heinous crime like rape. But what else can we expect of Gandhi scion..."

She is only good at lashing out with her whip like tongue and fake degree. She cant stand up for her own kind. Not TV actresses, but women. Only Drama and no real action.

All the Kings men and all the Kings women remained silent all these months when news of rapes were being reported across our country on a daily basis that prompted the US and UK Govts to issue travel advisories to their citizens about travel to india.

It is only when a strong remark has been made that this sleepy Govt and all its ministers have been woken up from their sleep with the sole purpose of attacking Rahul Gandhi which is the normal BJP policy. Ignore the message, attack the Messenger.

It will be nice if Smriti Irani decides to send her bangles to Modi for the sky rocketing prices of cooking gas, petrol, onions, instead of her only official assignment of attacking Rahul Gandhi

Rahul never invited foreigners to come to India for rape. It's Smrithi Irani openly, shamelessly intrepreting Rahul's statement in a bad manners, which shows her sick mentality. It's shame to note that, Smrithi Irani is stooping to such low level, demoralizing the nation. There are rapes everywhere and most of the rapes accused are BJP leaders. Instead of condemning the accused and giving justice to the victims this is new drama by Smrithi Irani and her chelas to divert the attention from the real issues. Shame on you Smrithi.

Smriti Irani could not understand the English language of Rahul . We have never heard a voice in Women from BJP wing about the rape in India . They don't want to leave their chair . These ladies would have come forward to protest against the rape and to get justice for our innocent females . I think she is not reading the paper . She should have asked the PM , Beti Padavo Beti Bachavo slogan applicable to whom ? What type of woman she is ?

This lady minster is clearly twisting what Rahul Gandhi said. This is creating news and controversy.
Let them see what he said.
I agree the word R*** is loosely used not just here, even in other medias. Thats highly regretted.
But the point is how the statement is twisted.
He says "ab jahaan bhi dekho make in india nahin r*** in india"
She is saying Rahul said that "Mahilavon ka ba****kar hone chahiye". Where has he said this?
Its heights of taking something out of context and putting in their own context.

    Exactly !

RG : I see daily in newspapers 'rape in India' 'rape in India' 'rape in India'

Irani : A Gandhi family member is saying 'Come, rape in India'

Ha Ha Ha... This misconception is because of her purchased fake Degree. If she was genuinely educated, she would have inferred the phrase correctly.

Where does this woman hide when the real rape takes place? She is conspicuous by her silence. Never utters a word nor comes out in support of the raped or takes out rallies condemning the act. When some opposition leader speaks against the crime, she opens her loud and dirty mouth then. As a woman, she should be the first to condemn such crimes.

Madamji... shed your security and walk in the streets of UP/Bihar and now add to that Hyderabad and then come back to the Parliament to tell that you weren't subjected to any abuse. Then on people of India will put up with any Nakhra you do in the Parliament.

Till then please put up with whatever the opposition says with concern to the common public. When you were in the opposition, you too did the same thing that the opposition does now.
