Should we give citizenship to Muslims coming from Pak: Shah

New Delhi, Dec 11 (IANS) Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday asked the opposition if citizenship should also be granted to the Muslims coming from Pakistan.

He posed this question to the opposition during discussion in the Rajya Sabha on the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2019.

"What do you want? Should we give citizenship to the Muslims coming from Pakistan?" said Shah, adding: "How will the country run like this?

Shah said: "People following, Hinduism, Jainism, Parsi, Sikhism coming from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh are persecuted in these countries. This Bill will safeguard the dignity and life of these people."

The NDA government has clarified that the reason behind excluding Muslims from the Bill was because they were the majority in these three countries. The Muslims cannot be persecuted on the basis of their religion because they are the majority in these countries, it contends.

The CAB was passed in the Lok Sabha and now waits for clearance in the Rajya Sabha.

    @ Shankar,

Surely, I agree to your points.
In the mean time if our is trying to accommodate (through NRC) don't you think that such step will put additional pressure on our treasury and employment structure when Millions of educated graduates/poste-graduates are suffering in our country. What is the remedy ?
Let the government try to solve existing issues for the benefit of those who are in the country.

Ours is a secular country. Our secular constitution ensures equal treatment to Indian citizens.
We need not quote our secular constitution when it comes to non-citizens.
Trump openly barred Muslims from entering USA. Greece stopped accepting refugees from middle east. Poland followed.
Those who went soft, like france and germany are facing the music now.
We have not forgotten the incidence where a 80 year old nun was raped in WB and who were the culprits. We can not risk our national security by accepting people who are known for their ungratefulness. So we reserve our rights to accept refugees with terms framed by us alone.

Farsis, jains, sikhs don't believe Raama or Krishna. Their faith is different. When you allow all these faiths include Hindus in India, why can't muslims. Constitution will never allow religious descriminations. Moreover it's not Amith Shah's money to decide single handedlly as to who is to live in India. How he will accommodate these much people and how he provide them employment? It's tax payers money. Amith Shah is completely fail in handling countries present situation. Nation is on the verge of deep finance crisis. These politicians has looted India all these years and now they play with people's religious sentiments and divert attention from real issues. It's pity that people are not bothered about their livelihood. Muslims have been focused as Ravana's ..but in reality real Raavanaa's are these disgruntled politicians, who always lie and create a deep divide in the country for vote bank and to amass huge wealth.

Due to Beef/cow slaughter ban the cattle population is booming and it's a tremendous pressure on government (treasury) to build Cow shelters, feeding and veterinary arrangements and due to the NRC bill government will exhaust all the resources what is meant for Indians. What a logic ?

Why not? If a person is persecuted in Pakistan for his/her political beliefs why not give them asylum and citizenship? Many muslim sects like the Hazaras, Ismailis etc are not considered to be muslims there and persecuted. Why cant they get asylum if asked. Our secular constitution does not differenciate people based on their religious beliefs, therefore this question posed my Amit Shah is totally wrong and goes against our constitution.

Pakistan's constitution does not discriminate between Shias or Ismailis or Ahmeddiyas. All are included as Muslims. Except non muslims like Hindu, Christians, Sikhs, Parsis Jains Buddhists etc. So this bill is required
