ILP provisions extended to Manipur, other parts of NE

New Delhi, Dec 11 (IANS): The Union Home Ministry has extended the provisions of Inner Line Permit (ILP) to Manipur and other parts of the northeast, according to a notification on Wednesday.

The development comes as the Citizen (Amendment) Bill, 2019 has obtained the approval of Lok Sabha.

Assam and other states in the northeastern region have witnessed agitations in the wake of the Citizenship bill getting Lok Sabha clearance and awaiting approval by the Rajya Sabha.

Various organisations in the northeast had been raising their voices against the CAB citing it as a threat to their ethnicity, despite assurances from the Central government.
