Man detained for trying to enter Parliament

New Delhi, Dec 9 (IANS): The Delhi Police on Monday detained a city-based man for trying to enter the Parliament Central Library by masquerading as a sitting MP, officials said.

A senior Delhi Police officer told IANS, "A person named Varun Mathur was detained around 5.30 p.m. for trying to enter Parliament by masquerading as a sitting parliamentarian."

He said Mathur, a resident of Delhi's Ganesh Nagar area, first tried to enter the Parliament building by telling the security officers deployed there that he was a sitting MP.

"However, when asked by another security official, he identified himself as a former MP. He was detained by security personnel at the reception before he could enter the building. He was then handed over to the Delhi Police," the officer said.

He is being questioned about his motive, the police said.
