Rahul to join protest against BPCL takeover


Kochi, Dec 5 (IANS): Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who arrived on a three-day tour of his Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency on Thursday, will join the protest by the party against disinvestment in the public sector oil company BPCL on Saturday in front of the Cochin refinery gate.

According to Chalakudy Congress Lok Sabha member Benny Behanan, Gandhi will arrive in front of the refinery gate and take part in the protest around 7 p.m on Saturday.

The Congress party has already termed this disinvestment as "killing the golden goose".

The Cochin refineries is part of BPCL and was set up by Kerala. When it was taken over by BPCL, the five per cent stake of the government continued besides the state government also supported the BPCL by way of tax reliefs.
