Jayasinghe is Sri Lanka's New Foreign Secretary

Colombo, Aug 29: Romesh Jayasinghe, the high commissioner to India, will be Sri Lanka's foreign secretary from Oct 1, the government has announced.

Jayasinghe will succeed Palitha Kohona, the current foreign secretary who has been appointed Sri Lanka's Permanent Representative to the UN in New York.

An additional secretary of the foreign ministry, Prasad Kariyawasam, who was Sri Lanka's Permanent Representative to the UN in New York, will succeed Jayasinghe as the envoy in New Delhi.

In other appointments, retired Air Chief Marshal Donald Perera has been named ambassador to Israel and Dixon Dela Bandara, a former governor of the Northern Province, the new high commissioner to the Maldives.
