Pakistan to raise Quran's desecration at EU, OIC

Islamabad, Nov 25 (IANS): The core committee of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's (PTI) has decided to raise recent incident of desecration of the Holy Quran in Norway at the European Union (EU) and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

Prime Minister Imran Khan chaired the meeting, The Nation reported.

Briefing the media about decisions here on Sunday, Firdous Ashiq Awan, Prime Minister's Special Assistant on Information and Broadcasting, said, "The committee not only condemned the incident of desecration of the Holy Quran but also reiterated the Prime Minister's stand that narrative of Islamophobia is disastrous for the international peace. It hurts sentiments of billions of Muslims living across the globe, and provides oxygen to extremist ideology."

Awan said the government would present a resolution at EU and OIC to discourage such matters, which negatively affected Muslims' emotions and sentiments.

The head of the extreme right-wing group -- Stop the Islamisation of Norway (SION) -- last week staged a protest in Kristiansand and attempted to burn a copy of the holy scripture.
