Fake currency worth Rs 1 cr recovered in Surat, 5 arrested

Surat, Nov 25: Gujarat Crime Branch on Sunday arrested five people for the possession of fake Indian currency notes worth Rs 1 crore.

"Based on the information by one of the four accused, identified as Prateek Dilipbai Chowariya, currency worth Rs 4 lac was recovered. Later Chowariya revealed that he along with others printed fake currency worth Rs 1 crore," DCP (Crime Branch, Rahul Patel) said.

The other men arrested were identified as Praveen Chopra, Kadu Chopra, Mohan Madhav and a priest name Radha Raman Swami. Police further investigated the matter and managed to stop circulation of fake currency in the market.

DCP Patel claimed that the accused admitted to printing the currency at their home in Kheda village.

"Praveen Chopra, Kadu Chopra and Mohan Madhav were also arrested with a fake currency value of Rs 19, 15 and 12 lac respectively from Surat," Patel added.

The police officials were successful in nabbing the temple priest with Rs 50 lac. The Crime Branch also recovered the machine used for printing fake currency.

On further investigation, it was discovered that one of the accused, Praveen, is a habitual offender.
