India's foundation based on secularism: Sena

New Delhi, Nov 21 (IANS): Assuring that the Maharashtra government formation process will be completed in next 10 days, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut on Thursday said the foundation of India and its Constitution is based on the word 'secular'.

Replying to a question whether the Congress was insisting that the Sena discard its Hindutva agenda before an alliance, Raut harped a secular tune.

"The country and its very foundation is based on the word 'secular'. You don't ask farmers or jobless or the hungry their castes or religion...All the stakeholders in the country are secular," said Raut.

He said that Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj always took people of all religions and castes together and late Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray had first mooted replacing the Constitution of India with religious texts for the swearing-in before the courts.

On the issue of sharing the post of Chief Minister as speculated by the media, Raut said "no final decision has been taken on rotating the CM term for 30 months".

"Leaders of the Congress-NCP have informed me that the discussions are very cordial, proceeding smoothly and in the right direction on the issue of Common Minimum Program. I shall meet NCP President Sharad Pawar today in New Delhi," Raid said.

Replying to a question on Sharad Pawar meeting Prime Minister Modi on Wednesday, Raut said "nothing wrong if a senior leader like Pawar meets Prime Minister Narendra Modi" for farmers issues.

Sena chief Udhav Thackeray in a video is seen ranting against Congress motormouth Mani Shankar Aiyar and even Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. Udhav Thackeray is seen ranting in Marathi where he says, "Mani Shankar Aiyar should be beaten with shoes. If I spot Aiyar, I will beat him up with shoes." He said that to claps of Sena supporters.

His next target was none less than former Congress President Rahul Gandhi. Udhav Thackeray is seen spewing his ridicule in the video when he says, "Rahul GAndhi is a fool. He has got a lot of time on his hand." He even advised him against his endeavours to become the Prime Minister and imitated him by rolling his sleeves, as Rahul often does.

As late as this October, the Sena mocked Rahul Gandhi's foreign trips. Addressing a rally in Ahmednagar, the Thackeray senior ridiculed Rahul's Bangkok sojourn by saying, "Your leader [Rahul Gandhi] has reached Bangkok. So, you [Balasaheb Thorat] too, can sit at home..."

Why? India is not secular? Its good for the nation if all parties give up religion agenda and focus on peoples development and their comforts! Eventually religion based politics will perish as people realize they were taken for ride on religion based emotions!
