New Delhi, Nov 21: The BJP government on Wednesday slammed Congress for its stand on Farooq Abdullah's detention. Union Minister of State for Home, G Kishan Reddy recalled that the opposition had arrested 33 MPs during Emergency, to 'save one person's chair', while claiming that it was necessary to protect the interests of the
country.
Reddy made the statement after DMK's Tiruchi Siva necessitated the release of Lok Sabha MP, Farooq Abdullah for the winter session of parliament.

"Various people were arrested at different times to protect the country's interest. One should remember that during Emergency, Congress arrested 33 MPs to save one person's chair. We are working in the interest of the nation and its law and order," Reddy said.
Reddy said there is false propaganda about Jammu and Kashmir's situation. "Only 609 people were behind bars, 151 more from the 458 figure of 2018. The normal situation will be restored shortly. On August 5, 5161 preventive arrests were made including stone pelters, separatists and some political leaders. We have released many. The Advisory Board is being constituted. We will review it from time to time and release people," he added.
Earlier, the Home Minister, Amit Shah announced that there is no turbulence in Kashmir and asserted that not a single person died in police firing since August 5. Shah also claimed that Section 144 is prevalent only in certain areas from 8 pm to 6 am in the valley and during nights.
On restoring internet, Shah said an appropriate decision will be taken on the recommendation of the local administration.
