JNU students to intensify protest on Friday

New Delhi, Nov 14 (IANS): Students of Jawaharlal Nehru University would intensify their protests against the fee hike and new hostel rules on Friday.

"Today, the students continued their protest and were holding demonstrations near the academic block, the same would continue tomorrow also," said JNU Students Union General Secretary Satish Chandra Yadav.

Some students alongwith Jawaharlal Nehru University Teachers Association (JNUTA) marched to the Jantar Mantar on Thursday.

"We will intensify the protests and have given a call to the whole university to join in," Yadav said. He, however, ruled out the option to approach the court against the new fee structure.

The students have intensified their fight against the varsity administration, and have painted the entire admin block with graffiti and on Wednesday night, also allegedly defaced the surroundings of a Swami Vivekananda statue that is still to be inaugurated.

The protesting students have accused the RSS-affiliated students wing, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), of creating the graffiti "to defame the varsity and its students".
