New Delhi, Nov 4: Just two days after violent clashes between lawyers and cops at the city's Tis Hazari court complex, another on-duty policeman was assaulted by a group of lawyers outside a district court complex in Saket in New Delhi.

The assault caught on camera by a bystander shows six lawyers surrounding the policeman on a bike. One lawyer elbows the policeman’s back twice, slaps him and pushes him away. The cop tries to escape when the same lawyer throws a helmet that hits the motorcycle.

Ever since the violence at Tis Hazari court complex on November 2 that left 28 people injured, 20 vehicles vandalized, tensions between lawyers and police officers are on a rise across New Delhi.

A group of lawyers had reportedly clashed with police officers at Karkardooma District Court in the New Delhi’s Anand Vihar area on Monday. Another group had barricaded itself inside the Saket court. There are reports that lawyers have also targeted members of the media, including women journalists and public.

On Monday, a strike was held by lawyers in lower courts across the country, including those in Delhi, condemning the Tis Hazari court complex violence.

“The strike will continue till all the culprits are arrested," Jaiveer Singh Chauhan, secretary of the Tis Hazari Bar Association had told media on Sunday.

The Delhi High Court took suo motu cognisance of the attack and held an emergency hearing on Sunday. The court ordered a judicial probe under the aegis of retired judge SP Garg. The court also transferred two senior police officers, suspended two others and ordered compensation for three injured lawyers.

The violence at Tis Harzai court complex broke out after a policeman allegedly opened fire at a lawyer after engaging in a heated argument over parking space at the court. Moments later, a group of lawyers set ablaze a police jeep and blocked traffic demanding the arrest of the policeman.
