Cong may restructure Uttrakhand party leadership

New Delhi, Nov 3 (IANS): In an attempt to regain the lost base in Uttarakhand, the Congress is set to replace present state party chief Pritam Singh by a Brahmin leader. It's also planning to replace Indira Hridyesh as the legislature party leader.

Amid many contenders for the top party post, Navprabhat, a Brahmin leader who was Minister in N.D. Tiwari and Harish Rawat governments, is said to be the frontrunner.

According to sources, Govind Singh Kunjwal may replace Indira Hridyesh.

The changes will also help the party create a balance between Kumaon and Garhwal regions. While Navprabhat is from Garhwal, Kunjwal belongs to Kumaon.

As the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has named a Rajput leader, Trivendra Singh Rawat, as the Chief Minister, the Congress, which lost the last Assembly polls to the BJP, is aiming to go for restructuring at the top in an attempt to reclaim the lost ground.

Earlier, the Congress had Kishore Upadhyay as the state party chief and Harish Rawat as the Chief Minister. Rawat has been shifted out of the state and been appointed AICC General Secretary and in-charge of Assam.

Encouraged by the Assembly election results in Haryana and Maharashtra, the Congress is taking a slew of decisions to activate the state leadership across the country.
