B R Films Settles Fox Studio's Plagiarism Charges

London, Aug 7: Bollywood production house B.R. Films has settled a plagiarism case by Hollywood studio 20th Century Fox for allegedly lifting the latter's film "My Cousin Vinny" for a Hindi spin-off "Banda Yeh Bindaas Hai".

Fox has accepted a $200,000 settlement from the Hindi film studio after they took B.R. Films to Bombay High court alleging plagiarism and copyright violation. The Hollywood house even sought Rs.7 crore (Rs.70 million) as damage charges and an injunction against the release of "Banda Yeh Bindaas Hai", reports imdb.com.

The legal papers stated that permission had been granted to make a picture based on the idea of the Oscar-winning 1992 film but rights for a Hindi-language remake had not been approved.

Fox claimed the storyline of "Banda Yeh Bindaas Hai" was almost identical to "My Cousin Vinny".

BR bosses had denied the allegations, but both companies have "now succeeded in amicably resolving the case" in an out-of-court settlement.
