Caste politics hurt BJP in Haryana: Party leader accepts

New Delhi, Oct 24 (IANS): Mounting a stinging attack on Congress, senior BJP leader Arun Singh on Thursday said that caste politics unleashed during campaigning in Haryana has hurt the BJP prospects.

The BJP general secretary told IANS: "They indulged in caste politics. Ofcourse it has hurt us to some extent." But he added, BJP will form the Government in Haryana nevertheless.

When asked on what will be the margin of win in Haryana, Singh fumbled.

He was referring to the Jat consolidation created by Congress under the leadership of Bhupender Singh Hooda. This was to counter BJP anti-Jat consolidation upon which BJP's 2014 election campaign was based and continued even in 2019.

If current trends hold, BJP is little ahead of Congress in Haryana but none are in position to form the Government on their own.

If current trends hold, BJP (38) is little ahead of Congress (30) in Haryana but none are in position to form the Government on their own. JJP is leading in 11, while Independent (6) BSP (1) and INLD (2) as counting progresses for the 90-member Assembly.
