Congress retains Ernakulam assembly seat

Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 24 (IANS): Congress candidate and present deputy mayor T. J. Vinod has won the Ernakulam assembly seat.

This has been the sitting seat of the Congress for a while now, but the margin of victory has come down from over 21,000 votes to around 4000 votes.

"I dedicate this victory to my voters. The margin has to do with the heavy rains on the polling day," said Vinod.

Heavy rains on polling day on Monday saw the votes cast from over 71 per cent in 2016 to 57.90 per cent this time.

The CPI-M had fielded Manu Roy as an independent candidate.
