Cabinet nod to regularisation of Delhi's unauthorised colonies, 40 lakh to benefit

New Delhi, Oct 23 (IANS): In what comes as an Diwali gift for over 40 lakh people living in unauthorised colonies of the national capital, the Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved regularisation of these colonies.

The decision was announced by Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad after the cabinet meet.

In June this year, the Delhi government had proposed a set of parameters to Centre to regularise 1,797 unauthorised colonies in the city. The Delhi government had also proposed to charge one per cent cost of land circle rate for up to 200 square metre plot from occupants and a nominal penalty.

The decision to regularise unauthorised colonies in Delhi is likely to have an impact on the Delhi Assembly election slated for next year.
