Nearly 27% voting recorded in Jhabua bypolls


Jhabua, Oct 21 (IANS): Nearly 27 per cent voting was registered in the bypolls held for Madhya Pradesh's Jhabua Assembly constituency on Monday, election officials said.

Polling stations opened at 7 a.m. Voting will end at 5 p.m.

The main contenders in the fray are senior Congress leader Kantilal Bhuria and Bharatiya Janata Party's Bhanu Bhuria, who is making his electoral debut.

As per the directives of the Election Commission, a mock poll was also conducted at 5.30 a.m.

Four Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) companies have been deployed at sensitive areas, while four Special Action Force contingents and 600 police personnel from other districts were securing the booths.

A total of 2,77,599 voters were eligible to cast their ballots. There are 1,39,330 male, 1,38,266 female and three transgender voters.

The counting of votes will be on October 24.
