Chicago: Mangalorean Konkans' Annual Family Meet

Chicago, Aug 3:  The annual family get-together of Mangalorean Konkan Christians Association was held at Vernon Hills Tennis Court Shelter grounds.  Although the pattern of weather was swinging from cloudy-to-rainy and peeps of Sun from time-to-time, the participants had wonderful time in socializing and fun and frolic through variety of activities, well thought out by the planning committee.

The members did not waste the prime time of the day engaging in games like Cricket, Volleyball, Throwball and Shuttle Badminton.  After playing all kinds of games to their heart’s content, members joined to savor various homemade snacks and meal provided by the members of MKCA.  There were variety of snacks like, Samosas, Charmuri and Nachos.  The lunch items consisted of Meat balls sandwich, Hotdogs, Corn-on-the-cob, Pasta, Chana, etc.  All the members savored the wonderful Vorn and freshly cut watermelons.  There were varieties of drinks, like lemonade, fruit punch, hot coffee, pops and sodas, etc.









































 

The organizing committee under the leadership of Claudette Fernandes convened various competitions and games.  Queenie Mendonca and Dorothy Rego arranged variety of activities like, Lemon and Orange, Lemon and spoon race, sack race, musical chairs, Bombing the city, etc.  To compliment these activities, there were group activities like, Dog-n-bone, Tug-of-war, etc.

The members present enjoyed this so much that they were not planning to depart the playground even after dusk!  All the winners of various activities received prizes from the President Lawrence Mascarenhas. Mascarenhas congratulated all the winners for their excellent performance. 

The winners are:  Kids 6 years and below:

Apple and oranges:  1st place: Evelyn D’Soouza; 2nd place: Godlyn D’Souza

Musical chairs:  1st place: Sharon Mathias;  2nd place: Godlyn D’Souza

Kids 7 yrs and above:  Lemon and spoon:   1st place: Shannon D’Souza and 2nd place: Becky Kamdar; Bombing the city:  1st place: Shannon D’Souza and 2nd place: Cheryl D’Souza

Teenagers:   Sack Race:   1st place: Shawn D’Souza and 2nd place Joey Mendonca; Freeze Dance:  (had to cancel due to rain)

Adults Ladies- Sack Race:  1st place: Dr. Merlyn D’Souza and 2nd place: Cynthia Rodrigues

Adults Gents- Sack Race:  1st place: Elroy Miranda and 2nd place: Royce D’Souza

The chairperson of this Annual Picnic celebration, Claudette Fernandes thanked all the members, well-wishers and guests for their great participation and support in the unique success of this program.  Compeer of the program Dr. Austin Prabhu announced the upcoming events of MKCA and immediate one being Monthi Fest on September 12, 2009 at Courtland Square Community Hall.
