Ex-LTTE cadre arrested with firearms, explosives


Colombo, Oct 14 (IANS): A former cadre of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) militant group has been arrested with firearms and explosives in Sri Lanka's Eastern Province, thea police spokesperson said.

On information received by an officer of the Serunuwara Army Camp near the Kiliweddi Bridge, Army officers on Friday arrested the suspect Joseph Peter Robinson, the Colombo-based Daily Financial Times newspaper reported spokesperson SP Ruwan Gunasekara as saying on Sunday.

During further investigations, the police found a stock of weapons and explosives hidden in Robinson's residence in Kilinochchi.

Among the seized weapons were three SFG 87 hand grenades, two Arges hand grenades, a small amount of C4, 62 9-mm ammo, nine 7-mm ammo, one T-56 weapon, 154 T-56 live ammunition, one Long Range Semi-Automatic Rifle, one magazine, two detonator cords, 62 different types of detonators, five MGM live ammo, one knife, a GPS, a camera, binoculars, a laptop, a dongle, an antenna, a mobile phone, four tee-shirts with slain LTTE leader Prabhakaran's picture and a black mask.

Kilinochchi Police have also arrested a 23-year-old woman said to be suspect's wife and another 28-year-old female identified as Robinson's sister.
