Washington : Indra Nooyi Named CEO of the Year

Washington, July 14 (IANS): Indra Nooyi, India-born chairman and chief executive officer of PepsiCo, has been named 2009 CEO of the Year by the Global Supply Chain Leaders Group (GSCLG).

Nooyi's key contributions include promoting and supporting socially responsible business practices, including taking on one of the planet's most pressing problems, climate change, the group announced Monday.

Nooyi was also instrumental in the company's efforts to provide a wider portfolio of nutritious foods and beverages. Her commitment to global citizenship is evidenced by her multi-year growth strategy, "Performance with Purpose".

"I am honoured that PepsiCo has received this recognition from the GSCLG," said Nooyi. "This award is a testament to the dedication of our 198,000 associates around the world who work tirelessly to grow our business and act as ethical and responsible citizens of the world."

The CEO of the Year Award recognises industry leaders who have made extraordinary contributions in the areas of responsible corporate citizenship, the combat against global warming, involvement in social causes and creating jobs in America in a globalised economy.

The CEO of the Year award is presented to the individual who received the highest aggregate ratings in leading, developing and maintaining sustainable, responsible business practices in its global operations.

I think it is a breath of fresh air for such an achievement being named the CEO of the year by an American-Indian, Indra Nooyi, a Mangalorean, in these times of recession makes us feel proud. Moreover, the CEO, of PepsiCo Foods, an American based business chain, being woman is all the more remarkable, showing that even a woman can reach such astonishing heights in this male-dominated world.

I am sure this will inspire the women who have the guts and ambition, to prove that they too can compete with men and show their worth among the conservative male-dominated businessmen.
