London, Jul 7: Rocker Tom Petty's song "American Girl" tops a new poll to find US anthems.

Contactmusic.com reports that the Rolling Stone magazine asked readers to vote for the most patriotic song to celebrate Independence Day, which was July 4. Petty's 1977 song beats out Don Mcleans' "American Pie".

The other songs to make it in the top five list were "American Woman" by The Guess Who, Simon and Gafunkel's "America" and Bruce Springsteen's "Born in the USA".
