WHO Upgrades Swine Flu to Pandemic


Stockholm, June 11 (DPA): The World Health Organisation (WHO) has upgraded the threat posed by influenza A(H1N1), commonly known as swine flu, to the highest level - of pandemic, a Swedish government minister announced Thursday.

Pandemic is the highest of six danger levels set by the WHO.

The announcement was made during a Thursday news conference by Maria Larsson, minister for elderly care and public health.

She said Sweden expected to get weekly deliveries of vaccines against the new virus, starting in 12-14 weeks, citing deals signed with vaccine makers.
