New Delhi: Battered Wife Kills Violent Husband, Arrested

New Delhi, June 7 (IANS): A 32-year-old battered mother of one Saturday ended up in police custody after she allegedly killed her "jobless, alcoholic and abusive" husband with a kitchen knife in Delhi.

Sunita, who lived with her husband Naveen Kumar at a rented place in Sector 16 Rohini, was arrested after her father informed the police about the crime.

Sunita married Kumar, a resident of Panipat in Haryana, in 2000 and the two had a six-year-old daughter.

Due to some domestic problems, the couple later moved to Delhi and rented the flat in Rohini close to Sunita's parental house.

The jobless Kumar used to drink excessively that aggravated the problems between the two even prompting her "to attempt suicide two years back", Sunita told police. She said she had even tried to live separately but couldn't.

Sunita told police that Naveen "used to beat her for money and on trivial family issues".

On Friday, when a heavily drunk Kumar started beating her, Sunita slammed his head with a dough kneading stone board and "when he became unconscious she stabbed him with a kitchen knife and slit his throat with another knife", a police officer said Sunday.

"After killing Naveen she changed her clothes, washed her hands and went to her parental house. She tried to cook up a story but finally she broke down in front of her father and narrated the whole incident," the police officer added.

Police found the blood stained body of Kumar lying in a bathroom in the house.

"Medical examination revealed that the deceased bore injury marks by a sharp edged weapon over his neck and face. The knife used for the murder was also recovered with the blood stained clothes," the police officer said.
