Sensex Soars, Closes above 12,000-mark

Mumbai, May 12: Equities rose 4.07% on Tuesday on fresh fund buying to breach the 12,000-point mark at close of trade. Banking and IT stocks led the rally. 

The Bombay Stock Exchange's Sensex, which opened at 11,629.97 points, surged 475.04 points to end the day’s trade at 12,158 points.

The S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) gained 3.56% to close at 3,681.10 points.

Broader market indices also ended in the positive terrain, with the BSE midcap index moving up 0.94%, while the BSE smallcap index was up 1.32%.
