Belgaum, Jan 23: An amendment is proposed to be brought to the Karnataka Control of Organized Crimes Act (KCOCA), to consider terrorist activities as organized crimes.

State home minister Dr V S Acharya moved an amendment bill to KCOCA in the assembly session being held here, on Thursday January 22.

The amendment would enable the courts to punish those guilty of being engaged in terrorist activities or in activities that are meant to terrorize others, with death sentence or life imprisonment along with fine up to Rs 10 lac.

The Act is being also amended to authorize the government to seize the assets of the accused even when the arrested persons in any such cases are being tried in courts.

The time limit for filing of chargesheet is also being extended from the previous 109 days to a year.
