Mysore, Jan 22: Mysore assistant commissioner and sub-divisional magistrate Gurneet Tej visited Mysore Central Jail for routine checking on the evening of Monday January 19. To her dismay, she found that a person named Srinat, known as Cat Babu, a Congress leader, was found inside the jail.

It may be recalled that no visitor is allowed inside the jail premises after 5 pm. The officer visited the jail premises at around 7 pm. During her visit, she found that a person was trying to hide from her. When she questioned him, he came out with vague replies. When the jail authorities were questioned about him, they failed to provide a convincing reply. Thereafter, she asked the jail authorities to immediately conduct an inquiry into the incident and send a report to her.

Her visit to the jail was sudden and hence the jail officials were caught off guard. She was there to collect details of the death of one of the jail inmates some time back.  Later, she said that when questioned, Srinat claimed he had come there to supply rations. "There was no record of his visit, he did not have the visitors token with him, his name did not figure in the register maintained at the main gate and his name was not in the list of ration suppliers," she pointed out.

Chief Superintendent of the jail Veerebhadraswamy claimed that Srinat is a partner of Nakoda Enterprises which supplies ration to the jail and that he had come there to discuss food tender details. However, he could not properly explain as to how he got into the premises without recording his presence anywhere.

It is learnt that the jail officials were initially reluctant to file a complaint as instructed, but were forced to do so after deputy commissioner Manivannan intervened. On a complaint filed by the jail authorities under the instructions of the assistant commissioner, a case of trespass was registered by the Mandi Mohalla police. However, Srinat secured bail on Tuesday.
