Beltangady: Village Girl wins Laurels for School, gets Rousing Reception

Beltangady, Jan 16: Rashmi, a tenth standard student of the Government Pre University College of Padmunja near here, was felicitated for having won laurels for her school and the taluk alike, on Wednesday January 14.

Rashmi won the gold medal in the javelin throw in the national level sports meet organized by the Association of Sports Unions of Indian Schools in Ernakulam, Kerala recently, by hurling the javelin to a distance of 35.22 metres.

Rashmi who hails from a remote village, has excelled at the national level, although she did not have access to advanced training. She was given a rousing welcome at Padmunja on her arrival and taken in a procession. Physical education teacher of the school Darshan Naik, who provided her coaching, was also honoured.

PU College principal M Swamy, School Betterment Committee president Raviraj Hegde, Mangalore Wenlock Hospital psychiatrist Girish, Padmunja panchayath vice president Sharara R Rai etc., were present.
