Bangalore: Eight Children Drown in Lake on Sankranti

Bangalore, Jan 15: The auspicious day of Makara Sankranti is considered to be very auspicious by many. However, the day brought miseries to the families of the eight children who died due to drowning on this fateful day.

Three children from Dasanapura of Nelamangala, three from Halekittur of Haveri Taluk and two from Halepalya of Malebennur died after drowning in different lakes. The children are said have ventured into these lakes to take holy bath on the auspicious occasion of Sankranti.

The deceased children have been identified as Santosh (9), Vijay Kumar (9) and Sandeep (5) of Kadabagere Governmnet High School, who drowned in the Giddenahalli lake, H M Kiran (13) and K G Siddenagowda (13) in Tungabhadra Lake of Hale Palya. Details of other three children are not as yet available. 

Anand (24) and Anjaneya (23) of Hosakittur also drowned in Varada Lake in yet another tragic incident. Cases of unnatural death were filed with the police in this connection.
